This web site showcases the seaweed collections made in Madang (Papua New Guinea) by Claude Payri and Heroen Verbruggen as part of a La Planète Revisitée expedition between 10 and 24 November 2012.

These pages are intended to be an educational resource, for the people of Madang as well as for algae enthusiasts and scuba divers. The expedition was organized by the Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle (MNHN), the Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD) and Pro-Natura International (PNI). We thank all the agencies who have made this expedition possible.

We thank the crew of the Alis research vessel for helping us in the field, and Eric Coppejans for his magnificent contributions to identifying the specimens during a workshop in Noumea. We also greatly appreciate the financial support by the Institut de Recherche pour le Développement, the University of Melbourne, the Australian Research Council (FT110100585) and the Australian Biological Resources Study (RFL213-08).

The pictures for this website are hosted on Flickr. The underlying taxonomic database is derived from WoRMS, which in turn is based on AlgaeBase. Website design, database design and programming by Heroen Verbruggen.
